Toulouse is the capital city of the department of Haute-Garonne, in southwestern France. It lies on the banks of the River Garonne, 150 kilometres from the Mediterranean Sea, 230 km from the Atlantic Ocean, and 580 km from Paris.
It was called “Toulouse la rose” because its buildings were made of red bricks, but nowadays many modern buildings are made with concrete so no longer conform to the traditional image of the city.
It is on the banks of the river Garonne.
It is also traversed by two canals: the Canal de Garonne and the Canal du Midi
It is the centre of the Aerospacial industry in France and it is where the famous Concorde jet was built.
